What is the proper temperature for soldering

We can know the best temperature for soldering after practicing soldering regularly, but if we want to become a soldering master, we should have a soldering station that can control the temperature.

We'll look at how to get the right soldering temperature, as the right temperature can make the tips we solder look smoother.

What is the proper temperature for soldering?

In fact, the correct soldering temperature is not a definite answer. Alloy solder is a common solder, and its melting temperature is between 360-370 degrees Fahrenheit (180-190 degrees Celsius).

How to find the best soldering temperature?

To quickly set the soldering temperature, you may need to learn some basic knowledge of soldering, and be sure to pay attention to the following points when learning:

Solder Type:

The type of solder is divided into lead solder and lead-free solder, and the melting point of lead and lead-free is different. Lead solder is a mixture of lead and tin that is at a temperature of 374 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) before the solder becomes liquid. Lead-free solder has a higher melting point than lead solder, about 544 degrees Fahrenheit (or 230 degrees Celsius), but for environmental and human health reasons, lead-free solder has become the main alternative to soldering today.

Dimensions of the soldering iron tip

The size of the soldering iron tip should be selected according to the needs of the soldering job. If your job requires a relatively large size soldering iron tip, its contact area is relatively large, and its heat transfer will be better, so you can set a relatively low temperature (relative to the standard temperature range). The iron tip in smaller size transfers relatively low heat, but it can provide more precise soldering.

In addition, if there are impurities on the tip when soldering, the heat transfer will be reduced. In this case you need to take care, because when this happens, the solder may not all melt and you will end up with "cold solder joints". In this case we need to remove the impurities from the tip of the soldering iron and use a cleaning sponge to keep the soldering iron clean. Therefore, when soldering finished, we must clean the impurities on the soldering iron, and put tin on the tip of the soldering iron to ensure the cleaning of the soldering iron next time.

If you have a lot of experience with electronics and soldering wires, you can set a higher  temperature, but if you are just starting to learn to solder, the high temperature may affect the components you are soldering, especially the soldering time on the components.

Now that you have a solid understanding of soldering, it's time to go back to your workbench and solder. At the beginning of soldering, you can choose a lower temperature. Novices are recommended to choose a temperature-controlled soldering station, because the soldering station can understand the temperature more clearly. AiXun T3A soldering station is recommended, which is very intelligent and suitable for novice to operate. besidesYou also need to practice soldering more. Good soldering skills are practiced by trying various methods.
